2005 PROGRAM DETAILs

Participating Company's Commitment

Employ one intern from June 1, 2004 through August 13, 2004

Identify candidate requirements and submit Job Description to NASCAR Diversity Affairs Department

Designate onsite-supervisor

Run background check, if required by participating company

Assist intern in finding area housing (if not local)

Coordinate intern’s attendance at Orientation Session

Coordinate intern’s overall experience

Coordinate intern’s attendance at one NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race

Evaluate intern’s performance

Conduct weekly, mid-program and post-program meetings with intern.



Participating Company's Financial Commitment

Intern wages (estimated): $2,400

Minimum 40 hours per week at minimum wage of $6.00 per hour, plus overtime of time and a half

Participating company will be responsible for cutting paychecks, either bi-weekly or monthly, directly to intern


Travel (estimated): $1,800

Travel to orientation session and one NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race ($800 per flight)

Lodging for orientation session and a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race ($100 per night). Orientation Session will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina therefore Participating Companies within the Charlotte area would not incur all estimated expenses

Participating organization via supervisor, will coordinate travel and will direct bill participating company or reimburse intern for all approved travel expenses

Does not include travel expenses for in-person interview for final candidates, supervisor’s travel and lodging for required orientation session, office supplies, parking and administrative expenses. These expenses will be incurred by each participating organization separately


Housing stipend ($500 per month): $1,250

Intern is responsible for finding their own housing (if not local)

Supervisor will provide local university and/or other area housing contacts


Total: $5,450



Intern's Commitment

Attend one-day orientation session (June 1, 2004 Charlotte, NC)

Work a minimum of 40 hours per week (June 1, 2004 through August 6, 2004)

Provide weekly written status reports to supervisor

Attend one NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race



NASCAR's Commitment

Facilitate recruitment process

Conduct mid and post program evaluations with interns and supervisors

Coordinate two special NASCAR race weekends for interns

Coordinate Orientation Session for Program

Host a minimum of three interns

Provide to participating companies exposure in printed application

Provide to participating companies opportunity for stories in NASCAR licensed publications related to Program

Distribute press releases to a select group of: Diverse National Publications;Diverse National Civic Organizations;College Newspapers including Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions; and Motorsports Media

Distribute applications to the NASCAR Diversity Council

Coordinate on-campus promotions including: site visits to and direct contact with Career Services and Financial Aid Offices at multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions within proximity to participating company headquarters; and industry interviews for school newspapers and radio stations

Coordinate Internet promotions including a unique Program website (www.diversityinternships.com) and promotions on at least five diversity-related websites

Provide to participating companies an opportunity for promotional give-aways and to sample product at orientation session

Provide to participating companies an opportunity to host interns at NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race



Screening and Selection Process

Phase One: NASCAR Diversity Affairs Department will:

Distribute applications to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions, as well as a diverse group of colleges and universities across the country, focusing on those closest to participating companies

Direct screening process, review applications, and conduct initial interviews and reference checks

Recommend a field of three top candidates to each participating company


Phase Two: Participating company supervisor will:

Conduct personal interviews with top candidate(s)

Select and notify final candidate
