Hometown and School: Merriam, KS, University of Kansas
Currently Employed: Texas Motor Speedway, Media Relations
How did you get involved with NASCAR and the Internship Program?
As a fan of the sport for a number of years, an opportunity to work within the industry as an intern seemed like a perfect fit. The NASCAR Diversity Internship Program provided me with the opportunity to purse my dream and opened up a number of doors. The program ultimately helped me land a position in the media relations department at Texas Motor Speedway.
What did you learn from your internship experience?
My experience as an intern allowed me to sharpen my skills and laid the foundation for my future. I continue to use the lessons learned during that time and put them to use today. The relationships I developed continue to flourish and still play a key role.
How is your present position rewarding?
Working at Texas Motor Speedway - one of the top tracks in the country - has been a rewarding experience. This opportunity is a culmination of the hard work and effort I put forth while working as an intern at Kansas Speedway. My goal of getting involved in the sport has now been reached. Now I continue to learn and grow to make strides to climb the corporate ladder.
As the media relations coordinator at Texas Motor Speedway I’m responsible for ordering trophies, assisting with the track media guide and helping establish a foundation for a Hispanic initiative. However, my major job is to oversee the media center on race weekends. From coordinating press conferences to ordering food and drinks, I’m responsible for it all. It can be stressful but after the weekend is over and everything went as planned it’s very rewarding.
Quote: “The opportunities I’ve been afforded through the internship program have proven to be priceless.”
