How did you get involved with NASCAR and the Internship Program?
I was attracted to the internship program because it’s strong commitment to diversity. I hadn't seen any other programs at the professional level that targeted minority students. The program appeared to be both comprehensive and inclusive. One that would provide me with a better understanding of sport business, valuable work experience, and great networking resources.
What did you learn from your internship experience?
The value of a family-oriented workplace is immense. NASCAR encourages interns to be hands-on, to explore different areas of interest, and to take advantage of the open-door policy that exists. This fosters a sense of teamwork which creates a foundation that each individual can take ownership of. When employees feel empowered to succeed, their contributions are limitless.
How is your present position rewarding?
My current position allows me to interact with a variety of people from different walks of life; Athletes, recording artists, top-level executives, and many others. The nature of my job allows me to be flexible and creative in the way I conduct business, which I enjoy. There's no set structure to adhere to.
I manage the marketing affairs of a championship track. Many of my responsibilities include generating and maintaining media partnerships, securing talent/entertainment for events, and coordinating pre-race and post-race festivities. I work with a dynamic, results-driven team.
